About the Company:
RescueTime is a service that helps people understand how they spend their time on the computer. That’s important for knowledge workers who spend the bulk of their days in front of a computer screen or attached to a mobile device. Having the proper information leads to good choices about how to spend your time. Thousands of our users agree.
About the Product:
What is RescueTime?
When you have the right information, you can make better decisions about how you want to spend your time. RescueTime is an easy way to make measurable, productive changes.
RescueTime runs in the background on your computer, measuring which applications, websites, or (optionally) documents are being used the most. You have complete control of what (and when) time gets logged.
Automatically track your time in applications and websites
RescueTime automatically records your time spent on websites and in different applications. Even more, activities are automatically grouped into categories so you can see how much time you spend doing different types of activities. You can customize any of our default categorizations, of course.
Set goals and track your progress towards them
Is there something you’d like to change about how you’re spending your time? You can set goals for time spent in a category or productivity level (exmaple: More than 5 hours of productive time per day). We’ll show you how close you’re coming to meeting your goals.
Stay informed about your time with a weekly email summary
We keep you informed with a weekly email report, so you don’t have to remember to keep coming back to the website to check your stats.
Manually track your time away from the computer
Some parts of your day aren’t easily logged automatically. You can manually log time in meetings, phone calls, even your morning commute. All of this time can be categorized and ranked just like your on-line activities.
Temporarily block distracting websites
Do you ever wish you could just turn off the distracting parts of the internet? Now you can. Choose an amount of time you’d like to focus for, and we’ll block access to websites you’ve marked as distracting so you you can stay on task.
Set up configurable, real-time alerts
You can set up alerts to let you know when you’ve spent over a certain amount of time in a category or productivity level. This provides a helpful nudge to keep you focused, or a pat on the back for when you’ve been working really hard.
More in-depth ways to look at your time
See more granular views of your data (down to the documents you’ve been spending the most time on). Create custom reports to show all time spent matching specific keywords (like a project ID). Also, all historical data is accessible. (Lite version can only see the past two months).
There is a free version. The Pro version is $72.00 per year.
