About the Product:
On August 8, 2017, award-winning CRM vendor, Really Simple Systems, launched a major new release of their popular cloud-based CRM. The new ‘Version 5’ is a total re-write of the CRM, delivering a dramatic step forward in CRM usability, targeting the SMB market.
Responding to customer feedback, Really Simple Systems has developed this new release to build upon their reputation for ease of use and customer support. The CRM Version 5 includes new intuitive features such as ‘drag and drop’ customisation, a global search bar, easy data move and merge options, and pull-out support drawers on each page.
Really Simple Systems CEO, John Paterson, comments “Unlike some CRM vendors, we haven’t created a cut down version of something more complex. Really Simple Systems is directly addressing the needs of small businesses with a CRM that’s quick and easy to use, yet has all the sales and marketing functionality needed.”
The new CRM Version 5 is a complete re-write from the ground up, that moves the system away from Microsoft to open source technology. With a clean, user-friendly interface, the new version reinforces the company’s philosophy of ‘taking complex applications and making them simple to use, and affordable’. Paterson continues “our CRM Version 5 offers features and functionality you might expect from a much larger vendor at a price you would not.”
Despite the new development, Really Simple Systems is keen to stress that its differential is still in its customer service. “We have also put a lot of effort into developing our support tools alongside the CRM” added Marketing Manager, Helen Armour. “We have new self-help tools within the product with links directly to our Customer Support Hub. Importantly, the information has been written by our Sales and Marketing team so it’s easy to follow and understand.”
After a year-long period of development, our CRM Version 5 is now live. In this first stage we’ve concentrated on developing the Sales module and creating a fresh new look, so it’s easier to use and find your way around.
Our next job is to move on to the Marketing module and then the Service & Support module.

The Techie Bit!
In Version 5.0 we’ve rewritten the CRM in PHP using LAMP architecture. The CRM was originally written in Microsoft ASP which is now a bit out of date and tends to be a bit “buggy”. It wasn’t written for today’s web integrations and doesn’t work well with technology like APIs and jQuery.
Rewriting the whole product in PHP has been a big undertaking but it means we’ll be able to take advantage of the latest web technology and make speedier developments in the future.
Introducing the CRM Version 5 New Features
Whilst working on the CRM rewrite, we’ve taken the opportunity to improve functionality in the Sales module and add a few new features.
Here’s what’s included in the first release:
- New, modern user interface
- Optimised layouts for Smartphones and tablets
- Custom dashboard that can be tailored to the individual user
- Predictive search facility with search across multiple records
- Help Drawers available in each page of the CRM, and videos where appropriate
- Ability to hide and re-order columns in the data tables/grids, tailored to the individual user
- Google Maps integration
- Ability to copy, merge and move records within the data tables/grids
- Ability to add Contacts without opening the Account
- Intuitive groupings of Settings functions
- Intuitive Subscription Management settings
- With Marketing module, ability to add Contacts directly to a Campaign
- With Marketing module, ability to send emails to an individual Contact
Further developments will be added later in the year.
