SugarOutfitters was founded in October 2011 in Minneapolis, MN by Jason Eggers and Chad Hutchins.

Jason Eggers: Long time SugarCRM community member since 2005. Prior to forming SugarOutfitters, Jason was an independent software developer and consultant. Before that was the Internal Systems Manager at Infinite Campus working in the trenches finding ways to optimize and solve the needs of sales, marketing, support, and other various departments.

Chad Hutchins: Also a long time SugarCRM community member since 2007. Chad was most recently an independent software developer and consultant, and before that he worked as an R&D Developer at Milsoft Utility Solutions.

At the time of the SugarOutfitters launch, there was no vibrant ecosystem for individuals or companies to buy and sell SugarCRM-specific modules and integrations. It was a fragmented market that caused much frustrations not just with SugarCRM users, but also prospects who were trying SugarCRM on for size. To us, this was an unfair reflection of SugarCRM as a product because at its core it is a very solid CRM platform.

Our ultimate goal is to simplify the user experience around every aspect of customizing and extending SugarCRM. The SugarOutfitters platform does this at two very different angles. First, it makes it easy for users looking to expand their out-of-the-box SugarCRM instance to discover and buy the best-of-breed solutions they need to be successful. Second, it’s a turn-key store front for sellers who offer commercial, high-quality modules and integrations.

SugarOutfitters has been self-funded from the start. What that means is that we can focus on our core vision and not have to cater to just making a buck for our investors. This freedom to cater to our users (both our members and sellers alike) is very important to us.

Current numbers have it at about 6,600 paying organizations using SugarCRM with an estimated average of 60-150 users per install. On top of that is an untapped market of organizations using the Community Edition. Based on industry conversion rates from free to paid that number could very well be around 10-20x that number, if not more.

Given our deep history with using, creating, buying, and selling SugarCRM solutions we have been able to specifically tailor a marketplace for this unique ecosystem. It’s a combination of proprietary technology that we have built along with the domain expertise that we bring to the table. Besides that, we can output quality work at crazy speeds.

For customers, we do the hard work of manually and automatically reviewing every single submission listed on our store. If for some reason there were an issue there are many avenues to get the help that is needed.

For sellers, we provide many built-in features like a Licensing API, Web hooks for automating back-end processes, a turn-key storefront, support, documentation, an affiliate reseller channel selling their products, stats such as conversion metrics, charge-backs and transactions are all handled by us, and so on. We do the bulk of the work so that sellers can focus on creating and supporting great solutions.

What we bring that a white-label solution can’t bring is a highly tailored solution to problems that users face specific to the SugarCRM platform and ecosystem. Things such as the submission vetting process to get listed on the site, version verifications, closed-loop reviews, and so on are hard to box for mass consumption. Same with the leg work we do for SEO, ad campaigns, affiliate programs, and the like. No out of the box solution could do what we wanted to ultimately do.

I have always tried to cover the more interesting add-on solutions in the CRM space. This has not always been easy though! Too many of these solutions are rushed to market before they are ready. Though I am a huge fan and supporter of smaller CRM developers, many of these add-on developers just aren’t ready to effectively support their products.
